PAIN AND INJURY ASSESSMENT FAQs

WHAT IS A BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENT?

Biomechanics is the study of human movement and underpins the majority of non-traumatic injuries seen in the foot, ankle and lower limb. At North East Podiatry within your assessment we will use tools such as a treadmill for gait analysis and a pressure plate to measure the forces acting upon the foot to look at factors which may have led to pain arising before reverse-engineering your body through tools such as guided exercise rehabilitation to try and alleviate the pain and prevent recurrence.

WHAT ARE FOOT ORTHOTICS?

Foot orthoses, sometimes called foot orthotics are specialist insoles which may be suitable for your condition to reduce pain and aid injury recovery. Foot orthotics come in many shapes, sizes and prices ranging from off-the-shelf insoles to fully bespoke custom foot orthotics which are made from a cast of your feet.

Not every patient needs foot orthotics, they are a tool for applying force to the foot to reduce strain on some structures around the foot and ankle with a view to aiding recovery and preventing injury recurrence. Your consultation will be bespoke and tailored to your specific needs, anatomy and footwear. Generally, orthotic solutions if required can be found for all budgets and lifestyles.
